## Meaning

Self-executing code stored on a blockchain that runs automatically when its conditions are met.

## Examples

- The whole app runs on a smart contract.
- The marketplace uses a smart contract to release payment only after the buyer confirms delivery.
- Once a smart contract is deployed to the blockchain its code cannot be edited, so an overlooked bug becomes a permanent and often expensive feature.
