## Definition

a black powder made from burnt animal bones. It is mostly used to filter liquids or to make black paint.

For teachers: a substance produced by the calcination of animal bones in a closed vessel, consisting primarily of calcium phosphate and carbon. Used industrially as a decolorizing agent or a pigment.
