## Definition

a strong fiber from a Philippine plant that people use to make rope, paper, and cloth. It is also known as Manila hemp.

For teachers: a strong, durable fiber obtained from the leafstalks of a Philippine plant (Musa textilis) of the banana family. Used primarily for cordage, specialty papers, and textiles.
