## Definition

a special tool used by doctors to look at the inside of the eye. It helps them see if the eye is healthy or if there is a problem.

For teachers: an instrument used in ophthalmology to examine the interior of the eye, particularly the retina and optic nerve. Often refers to a specific type of ophthalmoscope.
