## Definition

relating to things that are not living or do not involve life. You use this to describe processes or materials that happen in nature without any living cells.

For teachers: relating to or involving non-living matter or processes that occur without the presence of life. Often used in scientific contexts to distinguish chemical or physical phenomena from biological ones.

## Examples

- The scientist studied abiological processes in the soil.
- Researchers are investigating abiological sources of methane to understand how much of the gas comes from natural geological activity.
