## Definition

to officially decide that a previous legal decision or law is no longer valid. It is a formal way for a court to say that an old ruling was wrong.

For teachers: to formally declare a previous legal judgment or decision invalid or void. Often used in the context of higher courts overturning lower court rulings.

## Examples

- The supreme court decided to abjudge the previous ruling.
- After reviewing the new evidence, the judge chose to abjudge the original verdict to ensure a fair trial.
