## Definition

a very large amount of water, especially when it is moving or flooding. It is an old word that people rarely use today.

For teachers: an overwhelming or excessive quantity of water, particularly in the context of flooding or deluge.

- The ancient city was eventually abandoned after a sudden abluvion from the melting glaciers destroyed the lower districts.
