## Definition

a person who gives up their own needs and desires to help others. This word is very old and you will rarely see it in modern books.

For teachers: a person who practices self-denial or sacrifices their own interests for the benefit of others. Archaic in modern usage; primarily found in historical or religious contexts.

- The abnegator lived in a small room to help the poor.
- In the old stories, the abnegator was often a monk who gave up all his possessions.
