## Definition

a part of the stomach in some animals, like cows, where food is digested. It is the third and final section of their stomach.

For teachers: the third and final compartment of the four-chambered stomach in ruminants, where microbial fermentation of ingested food occurs. Also known as the 'abomasum'.
