## Definition

the medical term for a miscarriage that happens early in a pregnancy. It is a formal word used by doctors to describe the loss of a baby before the 20th week.

For teachers: the spontaneous termination of a pregnancy before the 20th week of gestation. Often used in clinical contexts to distinguish between early and late miscarriages.

## Examples

- The doctor explained the cause of the early abortus.
- Following the diagnosis of an abortus, the medical team provided emotional support to the patient and her family.
- While some early abortus cases are attributed to chromosomal abnormalities, others may result from structural issues within the uterus or hormonal imbalances that prevent the embryo from implanting successfully.
