## Definition

to officially end or cancel a law, a contract, or a treaty. You use this when a government or a group decides a rule is no longer valid.

For teachers: to formally repeal or annul a law, treaty, or contract. Often used in legal or political contexts to describe the termination of formal agreements.

## Examples

- The new government decided to abrogate the old treaty.
- The legislature voted to abrogate the controversial tax law after months of public protest.
