## Definition

the state of being away from a place or a job. It is an old-fashioned word for not showing up where you are supposed to be.

For teachers: the state or condition of being absent from a place, position, or duty. Primarily used in historical or formal contexts to describe a lack of presence.

## Examples

- While the term is largely obsolete in modern administrative language, historical records often cite 'absenteeship' to describe the systematic withdrawal of landowners from their rural estates during the late eighteenth century.
