## Definition

the state of not being in a place where you are expected to be. It can also describe a lack of attention or a feeling of being disconnected from what is happening around you.

For teachers: the state or condition of being away from a place or person; also refers to a lack of mental presence or attentiveness. Often used in medical or psychological contexts to describe a trance-like state.

## Examples

- The teacher noticed his frequent absentness during the final exams.
- The doctor noted the patient's occasional absentness, where he would stare at the wall for several minutes without responding to questions.
- While physical absentness from the office was tolerated, the manager was more concerned about the team's mental absentness, which led to several critical errors in the quarterly report.
