## Definition

the quality of being distant or not paying attention to what is happening around you. It describes a state where you are lost in your own thoughts.

For teachers: the state of being detached from immediate surroundings or preoccupied with internal thoughts. Often describes a lack of emotional or physical presence.

- His abstractedness made it hard to tell if he was listening.
- The professor's abstractedness during the lecture suggested he was more interested in his own research than the students.
