## Definition

a situation or idea that is so silly or unreasonable that it is impossible to believe. It is often used in logic to describe a conclusion that is clearly wrong.

For teachers: a conclusion or situation that is so unreasonable or illogical that it is impossible to accept. Often used in logical arguments to describe a result that is self-contradictory or nonsensical.

## Examples

- The argument led to an absurdum that no one could accept.
- If we follow this rule to its logical end, we reach an absurdum where everyone must lie to everyone else.
- The philosopher argued that the initial premise was so flawed that it inevitably led to an absurdum, proving the entire theory to be invalid.
