## Definition

to use something in a way that is wrong or harmful. You use this when someone takes advantage of a situation or a person for their own benefit.

For teachers: to use something in a manner that is improper, harmful, or exploitative. Often implies a lack of respect for established rules or ethical boundaries.

## Examples

- The company is being abused by its own employees.
- The new software was quickly abused by hackers to steal personal data from the server.
- While the system was designed for transparency, it was soon abused by those seeking to manipulate public opinion through selective leaks of confidential information.
