## Definition

a person or thing that is next to another on a map or in a building. You use this when talking about land or walls that share a side.

For teachers: a person or thing that is adjacent to another on a map or in a physical structure. Often used in legal or architectural contexts to describe shared boundaries.

## Examples

- The two houses are abutters on the same street.
- The property owner must consult with his abutter before building a fence along the shared boundary.
