## Definition

a medical condition where a person loses the ability to do math or understand numbers. It usually happens after an injury to the brain.

For teachers: a neurological condition characterized by the loss of the ability to perform mathematical calculations or understand numerical concepts. Often results from damage to the parietal lobe of the brain.

## Examples

- The patient suffered from acalculia after the stroke.
- Despite having a high IQ, the individual developed acalculia, making it difficult to manage personal finances or follow recipes.
- Acalculia is frequently observed in patients with dyscalculia, though the latter is typically a developmental disorder while the former is a result of acquired brain injury.
