## Definition

in a way that is too much or goes beyond what is necessary. It is an old-fashioned word that means doing something more than is needed.

For teachers: to an excessive degree or in a manner that surpasses what is required or appropriate. Often used in literary or formal contexts to describe an overabundance of something.
