## Definition

changed to show what the total or rate would be for a full year, even if the real period is shorter. You use it to compare pay, interest, or growth fairly.

For teachers: adjusted or projected to an equivalent yearly rate for comparison, regardless of the actual period measured. Often precedes nouns such as 'rate', 'return', or 'growth'.

## Examples

- The bank shows the annualized interest rate.
- The fund reports an annualized return of six percent over the last five years.
- Although the investment gained only two percent in a quarter, its annualized growth suggests strong long-term performance if that pace continues.

## Usage notes

- Typically placed before the noun it modifies, as in 'annualized rate'.
