## Definition

to plan or organize something so that it can happen.

For teachers: to make the necessary preparations or plans for a future event or action; often used when the subject organizes for someone else to perform the action.

## Examples

- I will arrange for a taxi to pick you up.
- The manager had to arrange for a temporary worker to cover the desk while Sarah was on holiday.
- The embassy will arrange for an interpreter to be present during the negotiations to ensure that no technical nuances are lost in translation.

## Pitfalls

- Not "I will arrange a taxi for pick you up." but "I will arrange for a taxi to pick you up." — the phrase requires 'for' followed by the object and then a 'to' infinitive for the action.

## Usage notes

- usually followed by a noun or a 'for someone to do something' structure.
- Teaching tip: highlight the structure 'arrange for + object + to-infinitive' as it is a common source of error for learners who try to use 'arrange that'.
