## Definition

a person's power to hear or their sense of hearing. It is a very short, informal way to talk about how well someone can listen.

For teachers: the faculty or sense of hearing. An informal clipping of 'audition' or 'auditory', though significantly less common than its related forms in standard discourse.

## Examples

- He has a very sharp aud for music.
- The doctor tested her aud to see if the loud noise had caused any permanent damage.
- While the patient's visual processing remained intact, his aud was severely compromised following the accident, making verbal communication nearly impossible without the aid of a specialist.

## Usage notes

- Informal and rare; typically found in specific medical or technical shorthand rather than general conversation.
