## Definition

feeling awake or becoming aware of something. You use this to describe someone who has just stopped sleeping or has suddenly understood a new idea.

For teachers: having been roused from sleep or made aware of a particular fact or situation. Often used predicatively after a linking verb or as a participial adjective modifying a noun.
