## Definition

a safe place at a bank where you keep your money. You can put money in or take it out when you need it.

For teachers: an arrangement with a financial institution that allows a customer to deposit and withdraw funds. Often specified by type, such as savings or checking.

## Examples

- I need to open a bank account to receive my salary.
- Most people now manage their bank account through a mobile app to check their balance and pay bills instantly.
- Security protocols for a modern bank account involve multi-factor authentication to ensure that only the authorised holder can initiate electronic transfers or modify personal details.

## Pitfalls

- Not "I put my money to the bank account" but "I put my money into my bank account" — Use 'into' or 'in' to describe moving money to an account; 'to' is used for the physical bank building.

## Usage notes

- Commonly used with the verbs 'open', 'close', 'manage', or 'monitor'.
