## Definition

the percentage of people who visit one page on a website and then leave immediately without clicking anything else. A high number usually means the page did not give the visitor what they wanted.

For teachers: the percentage of visitors to a particular website who navigate away from the site after viewing only one page. Often used as a metric to evaluate the effectiveness of a landing page or the relevance of content to the target audience.

## Examples

- We need to lower the bounce rate on our homepage.
- After the marketing team redesigned the landing page, the bounce rate dropped from sixty percent to forty percent.
- While a high bounce rate typically suggests poor user engagement, it can also indicate that a visitor found the specific information they required immediately and had no further need to browse.

## Usage notes

- Commonly used in the singular when referring to a specific site's metric.
