## Definition

the sound and air that comes out of your mouth after you eat or drink too fast. It happens when your body needs to let out extra gas from your stomach.

For teachers: an audible release of gas from the stomach through the mouth. Often considered a breach of social etiquette in Western cultures unless followed by an apology.

## Examples

- He let out a loud burp after finishing his soda.
- The baby gave a tiny burp after being patted on the back following her afternoon feeding.
- While certain cultures view a post-meal burp as a complimentary sign of satisfaction, most formal Western dining protocols require the individual to suppress the reflex or excuse themselves.
