## Definition

to stop using one system or method and start using a new one. You use this when a group or company makes a big switch.

For teachers: to transition from one system, method, or state to another. This phrasal verb is frequently used in organizational contexts and often takes the preposition 'to'.

## Examples

- The factory changes over to solar power this month.
- The company decided to change over to a four-day work week to improve the well-being of its employees.
- Although the initial costs were high, the decision to change over to renewable energy sources significantly reduced the firm's long-term operational expenses and carbon footprint.

## Pitfalls

- Not "We will change over the new system." but "We will change over to the new system." — The preposition 'to' is required to connect the verb to the new system being adopted.

## Usage notes

- Usually followed by 'to' when the new system or method is mentioned.
- Teaching tip: Contrast with 'switch', which is more general; 'change over' implies a more formal or complete transition of a system.
