## Definition

To have a relationship with someone, or to be related to or involved with something.

For teachers: To be associated with or have a relationship to a person, group, or subject; can also describe forming an empathetic bond with someone.

## Examples

- The crime is connected with a local gang.
- Police believe the recent robbery is connected with a series of similar crimes in the area.
- The philosophical concept of existential dread is deeply connected with the societal alienation experienced during rapid industrialization.

## Pitfalls

- Not "He is connected the project." but "He is connected with the project." — The preposition 'with' (or 'to') is necessary to link the subject to the object.

## Usage notes

- Often used in passive constructions to show a link between two things, people, or events.
- Teaching tip: Contrast with 'related to' (very similar, slightly more formal) and 'linked to' (often implies a stronger, more direct causal or physical connection).
