## Definition

to keep doing something or to stay in the same place. You use this when you don't stop an action or a process.

For teachers: to persist in an activity or process without interruption; to remain in a specific state or position. Often followed by a gerund or an infinitive with 'to'.

## Examples

- Please continue with your work while I am out.
- The legal team advised the company to continue the investigation until all facts were uncovered.
- Despite the initial setbacks and the dwindling budget, the research team decided to continue their efforts to find a sustainable solution for the local community.

## Pitfalls

- Not "continue of the project" but "continue the project" — The verb is transitive and does not require the preposition 'of' before its object.

## Usage notes

- Can be followed by either a gerund ('continue working') or an infinitive ('continue to work') with little change in meaning.
