## Definition

a decorative border made of stone or wood that sits at the top of a wall or building. It often sticks out a little bit to help keep rain away from the walls.

For teachers: a horizontal decorative moulding that crowns a building or furniture element. In architecture, it forms the uppermost part of an entablature and serves to throw rainwater away from the building's walls.
