## Definition

a small bed for a baby or a young child with high sides to keep them safe. In some countries, it can also mean a simple, narrow bed that you can fold up and carry.

For teachers: a small bed with high slatted sides for an infant; alternatively, a light, portable bed used for camping or temporary accommodation. The term is regionally distinct, with the infant-bed sense dominant in British English and the portable-bed sense common in North American English.
