## Definition

the process of separating tangled factors so that each control or dimension changes only one specific feature.

For teachers: the property of a representation where distinct underlying generative factors of variation in data are partitioned into independent, orthogonal dimensions.

## Examples

- The artist adjusted the lighting on the face without altering its pose thanks to feature disentanglement.
- Beta-VAEs encourage disentanglement by penalizing statistical dependence across latent embedding dimensions.
- A perfectly structured latent space achieves complete disentanglement, ensuring that intervening on one coordinate modifies exactly one semantic attribute.
