## Definition

to make someone know about something or get used to it. You use this when you want to help someone learn the basics of a new subject or place.

For teachers: to make someone acquainted with or conversant in a subject, place, or person. Transitive — requires a direct object, typically followed by the preposition 'with'.

- I need to familiarize myself with the new software.
- The tour guide spent the first hour helping the guests familiarize themselves with the layout of the museum.
