## Definition

the part of a beach between the sea and the dry land that is under water at high tide and dry at low tide.

For teachers: the area of shore between the high-water and low-water marks, alternately covered and exposed by the tide. Frequently appears in legal and environmental writing to define coastal boundaries and access rights.

## Examples

- We walk on the foreshore at low tide.
- The children search for crabs on the foreshore after the tide goes out in the morning.
- Development plans stalled because the proposed wall would alter sediment flow across the foreshore, threatening nesting sites protected under coastal law.
