## Definition

to continue with a plan or activity in a strong and determined way, especially when it is difficult.

For teachers: to proceed with progress or development in a resolute manner; often implies overcoming resistance or maintaining momentum despite obstacles.

## Examples

- The company decided to forge ahead with the new project.
- Despite the heavy rain and wind, the hikers chose to forge ahead to reach the summit before dark.
- While competitors hesitated due to market volatility, the firm continued to forge ahead with its ambitious expansion into emerging economies.

## Pitfalls

- Not "They forge ahead the plan." but "They forge ahead with the plan." — when followed by a noun, the preposition 'with' is necessary to connect the action to the object.

## Usage notes

- usually followed by the preposition 'with' when an object is present.
- Teaching tip: the verb 'forge' relates to a blacksmith's strength and heat; use this image to help students remember the sense of powerful, steady movement.
