## Definition

the name for an ancient region in Western Europe that covered what is now France, Belgium, and parts of nearby countries. It was also the name for a person who lived there a long time ago.

For teachers: the historical region of Western Europe during the Iron Age and Roman era, primarily encompassing modern-day France, Luxembourg, and Belgium. When referring to a person, it denotes an inhabitant of this region before the Roman conquest.
