## Definition

to flow out in a large amount, often because of a break or a leak. You use this when liquid or gas moves quickly from one place to another.

For teachers: to flow or pour out in a continuous and often rapid stream. Intransitive — does not take a direct object.

- The pipe started gushing water all over the floor.
- When the dam finally broke, the river began gushing through the valley with incredible force.
- The geologist noted that the spring was gushing with such intensity that the surrounding soil became saturated within minutes, creating a small temporary stream.
