## Definition

a round house made from blocks of hard snow or ice. You find them in very cold places because snow walls keep heat inside.

For teachers: a dome-shaped shelter built from blocks of compacted snow or ice, traditionally associated with Inuit peoples of the Arctic. The interlocking blocks trap air and provide insulation against extreme cold.

## Examples

- They build an igloo from hard blocks of snow.
- The guide shows the children how to cut snow blocks and stack them into a small igloo.
- After the storm buried their tents, the climbers carved an igloo into the drift, trusting its curved walls to hold heat through the night.
