## Definition

to write a plan or date in your calendar because it is now official. You use this when you are sure the plan will not change.

For teachers: to record an arrangement or date in a definitive manner, typically on a schedule or calendar. It implies a transition from a tentative state to a confirmed one.

## Examples

- I will ink in our meeting for next Tuesday at ten.
- Once the contract is signed, we can finally ink in the launch date for the new product line.
- Although the details were initially discussed over the phone, the parties refused to celebrate until the terms were officially inked in.

## Pitfalls

- Not "We need to ink in it." but "We need to ink it in." — when the object is a pronoun, it must be placed between the verb and the particle.

## Usage notes

- takes a date, time, or event as the direct object.
- Teaching tip: contrast this with 'pencil in' to show the difference between a tentative plan and a confirmed one.
