## Definition

a way of checking that different parts of a computer program work correctly when they are joined together. It makes sure that data flows properly between separate pieces of software.

For teachers: a phase in software testing where individual software modules are combined and tested as a group. Focuses on verifying the interfaces and data communication between integrated components to identify defects in their interaction.

## Examples

- The team started integration testing after finishing the individual features.
- After the database and the user interface were completed, the developers performed integration testing to ensure the login screen could successfully retrieve user records.
- While unit tests verify the logic of isolated functions, integration testing is essential for uncovering architectural flaws that only emerge when disparate subsystems attempt to exchange complex data structures.

## Pitfalls

- Not "The developer performed a unit testing on the whole system." but "The developer performed integration testing on the whole system." — Learners often confuse 'unit testing' (testing small, single parts) with 'integration testing' (testing how parts work together).
