## Definition

Stands for Liquefied Natural Gas. Natural gas that has been cooled into a liquid so it is easier to store and move. It takes up much less space than gas, making it possible to ship across the ocean.

For teachers: Abbreviation for Liquefied Natural Gas. Natural gas, primarily methane, that has been cooled to cryogenic temperatures to facilitate storage and transport. Often used in discussions regarding global energy markets and infrastructure.

## Examples

- The country is building a new terminal to import more LNG.
- Because pipelines cannot cross the ocean, the energy company converts the gas into LNG for transport by ship.
- The transition toward LNG as a bridge fuel remains controversial among environmentalists, who argue that the infrastructure costs may delay the adoption of truly renewable energy sources.
