## Definition

the mathematical logarithm of the odds of an event occurring, used to make probabilities easier to work with.

For teachers: the natural logarithm of the ratio of the probability of an event to the probability of its complement, mapping probabilities from the unit interval to the real line.

## Examples

- Logistic regression calculates the log-odds of a student passing the examination.
- In binary classification, a decision boundary occurs where the log-odds equal zero.
- Updating linear weights in logistic models adjusts the log-odds additively, simplifying the Bayesian accumulation of evidence.
