## Definition

to end your session on a computer or website so that other people cannot see your private information.

For teachers: to terminate a secure session on a computer system, network, or application. Often used to ensure data privacy and prevent unauthorised access after a user finishes their tasks.

## Examples

- Always log out of your bank account when you finish.
- For security reasons, the system will automatically log you out if you are inactive for more than ten minutes.
- Before leaving the shared workstation, ensure you log out of all active sessions to prevent subsequent users from accessing your personal directories or cached credentials.

## Pitfalls

- Not "I logged out the website" but "I logged out of the website" — When specifying the system or site being left, the preposition 'of' is required.

- Intransitive or transitive with 'of'; when transitive, the object follows 'of'.
