## Definition

Stands for 'Order of the British Empire'. A title given to people who have done something very special for the country. It is a high honor, like a knight, but not as high as a baronet.

For teachers: Abbreviation for Order of the British Empire. A British order of chivalry established by King George V in 1917, consisting of five classes: Knight/Dame Grand Cross, Knight/Dame Commander, Commander, Officer, and Member.
