## Definition

the ability to understand how a complex system is working by looking at the data it produces. In computing, it helps engineers find and fix problems by watching signals like logs and performance charts.

For teachers: the extent to which the internal state of a system can be inferred from knowledge of its external outputs. In software engineering, it involves collecting and analyzing logs, metrics, and traces to monitor health and troubleshoot performance issues.
