## Definition

the flow of blood through an organ or part of the body. Doctors check it to see if the tissue is getting enough blood and oxygen.

For teachers: flow of blood through the capillary bed of an organ or tissue, delivering oxygen and nutrients. Often measured in imaging and physiology to assess tissue viability.

## Examples

- Good perfusion keeps the fingers warm and pink.
- The nurse checks the patient's foot for warmth and colour to confirm good perfusion after surgery.
- After the heart attack, scans showed poor perfusion in part of the heart muscle, prompting doctors to restore blood flow quickly.
