## Definition

to show a new movie, play, or show to the public for the very first time.

For teachers: to present a film, play, or musical work for its first public performance. Often used in the passive voice when discussing the release of media.

## Examples

- The new superhero movie premiered in London last night.
- The documentary premiered at the film festival to a standing ovation from the critics.
- Although the symphony premiered to mixed reviews in the nineteenth century, it has since become a cornerstone of the orchestral repertoire.

## Usage notes
