## Definition

a private computer network that gives a company its own secure space to store data and run programs. Unlike public services, only one organization uses this specific system.

For teachers: a cloud computing environment dedicated solely to a single organization, hosted either on-premises or by a third-party provider. It combines the scalability of cloud technology with the security and control of a private network.

## Examples

- Our company stores all sensitive client data on a private cloud.
- The bank migrated its core operations to a private cloud to meet strict government regulations regarding data privacy and security.
- While public clouds offer cost-effective scalability, many enterprises prefer a private cloud architecture to maintain granular control over their infrastructure and ensure compliance with industry-specific data sovereignty laws.

## Usage notes

- Often used as a compound noun; can also function as an uncountable concept in technical discussions.
