## Definition

to tell someone to be quiet. You use this when you want to stop someone from talking or making noise.

For teachers: to command someone to be silent or to cease talking. Often used as an interjection or a command to quiet a person or group.

## Examples

- Shush, the baby is sleeping.
- The librarian had to shush the students who were talking too loudly in the reading area.
- The teacher had to shush the entire class several times before the students were finally able to focus on the lesson.
