## Definition

a person who rides on the surface of a wave on a special board. Surfers usually ride waves at beaches with strong winds and big waves.

For teachers: a person who engages in the sport of surfing — riding on the face of a breaking wave, typically standing on a surfboard. Also used metaphorically for 'a web surfer' (someone browsing the internet).
